Christine Tomkins was the Chief Executive of the Medical Defence Union for over 12 years between 2009 and 2021, and the first woman to take the helm. After a long and distinguished career she is ready to share all the tales of the unexpected from the front lines of medical defence.

About the event

Our speaker, Christine Tomkins was the Chief Executive of the Medical Defence Union for over 12 years between 2009 and 2021, the UK's leading medical defence organization with nationwide coverage. The company was founded over 135 years ago  in 1885 and Christine Tomkins was the first woman to take the helm. She was in clinical practice as an ophthalmologist before joining the MDU as a medicolegal adviser in the 1980s. She was Head of Claims, then Director of Professional Services before her appointment as Chief Executive in 2009. She lead an organization of over 350 people and has a long list of stories from behind the curtain. Please come along to hear all the tales of the unexpected from the front lines of medical defence.

The lecture will commence at 8.00 p.m. and will be preceded by a welcome drink (6.15 p.m.) and a two course dinner at (6.45pm) for members and their guests. Dinner reservations will close on midday on Friday 28th February 2024. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
